Greater minds than this...

...lurk in these passages. And I've been thinking.

Every year my mother has to buy a birthday card for her sister. And every year she'll come home complaining because all the cards are so...nice. And my mother doesn't normally do nice. And then last week, The Big Boy and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and while I don't do cards (an unnecessary depletion of natural resources) I got to thinking.

What about cards for real people? What about cards for people who have been married for 20 or 30 or 40 years and are looking at each other thinking, "WTF?". Hallmark needs me.

Front: After all these years, our minds work as one.
Inside: I wouldn't do it again, either.

Front: You're still the same person I married.
Inside: I wish I'd known then what I know now.

The possibilities are endless. Any suggestions?

P.S...Having said this, about not being a card person. Every year at Christmas I get the most wonderful cards from the people I live with all year long. And year after year, they faithfully send me cards that give this family great pleasure, and I just sit here on my ass. So this year, for Valentine's Day, I sent out cards. The front was a montage of the people in this institution over the past year. The inside read:

Christmas came, Christmas went
I never got those damn cards sent.

The cards were bought, the list was made,
Then my resolve began to fade.

I picked up stamps, I made a pile,
Then I read email for a while.

My mother says my road’s not paved,
It’s greased from all the slips I’ve made!

So keep in mind, I love you dear
And not just Christmas but all year.

And here’s the card, so I can say:
I missed Christmas! Happy Valentine’s Day!

But, you know, your mother is...you MOTHER...you're never to old to rag on your mom....
